Summary Description:

The Trading Card Game (TCG) Editor is responsible for meeting all editorial needs at a high standard for assigned TCG products, from card text and instructions to supporting copy. This position ensures the accuracy, clarity, and accessibility of all game and support text for assigned products at all stages of production. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and quality-focused, with the ability to consider both the smallest details of a project and the larger implications of project decisions.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Contribute to, implement, and maintain templated text for assigned lines, working closely with internal team
  • Assess and correct language in all product areas for clarity, consistency, grammar, punctuation, accuracy, content, style, voice, and function
  • Edit and proof non-game content as assigned
  • Provide helpful feedback to team members on varied product content and development work
  • Contribute to assigned style guides and process documentation

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Editorial Experience: Strong knowledge of editorial environment both broadly and within the industry, with experience working on an ongoing product line supporting game development and instruction, narrative, organized play, and marketing.
  • Editorial & Writing Skills: Excellent and consistent editing and proofreading skills at all levels. Strong understanding of templating as a process. Detail-oriented with excellent writing skills for a variety of audiences to support clear, concise, and appropriate communication.
  • Perspective: Ability to look at all text from both the TCG player perspective and the non-gamer perspective
  • Project Management: Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to take ownership of assigned tasks, set priorities, multitask, and follow through to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening and working well with a variety of personality types. Sensitive to diverse corporate, employee, and public needs, with an understanding of international dynamics and cross-cultural communication.
  • Problem- Solving: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve and make editorial decisions effectively and efficiently. Ability to function independently with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
    • Tech Proficiency: Comfortable using Wrike and Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel; experience working with databases.
  • Learning Mindset: Demonstrated interest in growing skills and knowledge, committed to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends, ability to identify areas of improvement and to receive and utilize feedback.

 

Education and Experience Requirements (Minimum):

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field, with an exception for DIRECT relevant experience of 3+ years when accompanied by a high school diploma.
  • Experience
    • 3+ years of editorial experience, technical editing experience preferred
    • 2+ years editing experience within the TCG industry strongly preferred
    • Exacting templating experience strongly preferred
    • Functional understanding of Disney Lorcana TCG rules and wordings strongly preferred
    • Experience working with products of varied strategy levels preferred
    • Experience with developmental editing and copyediting marketing and creative text a plus
    • Must be willing to take an editorial test

Salary range- $80,000-$110,000
